Technical features of horizontal milling machines

Jul 20, 2026

As a universal attachment that can be installed on various types of hydraulic excavators, the technical characteristics of a milling machine are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Milling machines are characterized by low vibration and low noise, effectively replacing blasting operations in areas with vibration or noise restrictions. They can precisely control construction, quickly and accurately trim the outline of structures, and solve the problem of under-excavation. The milled material has a small and uniform particle size and can be directly used as backfill material. Using milling machines to replace manual labor in tunnel excavation in soft rock or fractured rock formations helps improve the safety of tunnel construction.

Milling machines are flexible in application; different milling cutter heads, trenching milling wheels, rock saw discs, etc., can be replaced according to the working environment. Due to its modular design, the milling machine can adapt to different operating conditions. It has a wide milling range; the angle of the milling head can be adjusted, and the milling width can be adjusted from 1200 mm to 670 mm.

Maintenance of milling machines is relatively simple, mainly including bolt tightening and necessary milling head replacement; daily grease lubrication is not required. It features a highly torsion-resistant gearbox, making the milling head more wear-resistant and enabling long-term use in harsh environments. The gearbox is equipped with replaceable wear-resistant liners.

The milling machine uses a radial piston motor for direct drive, resulting in high power transmission efficiency and low maintenance requirements. High-pressure safety filters and housing return oil filters help protect the hydraulic system and extend equipment life.

The milling machine has a simple structure and can be installed on any existing hydraulic excavator. It can be installed using the hydraulic circuit of a hydraulic breaker or hydraulic shears, eliminating the need for the user to purchase an additional excavator.
